Default My Dog's "Butt Hop"

I have had a 2 yr old Ridgeback / Lab mix for about a month now.

He does the weirdest thing (at least I think), and wanted to see if
anyone saw or had a dog who did this, and maybe why?

I call it the Butt Hop.

He gets into the sit position all by himself (usually with a piece of
furniture to his back), yet his butt does not touch the ground (tail is
on ground obvisouly), and he does a little rabbit / frog like hop but
does not move forward just up and down, without the butt ever touching
ground. He will do it a few times when he does it.

I would think that his butt itched, but if that was the case he would
rub it on the carpet/floor as he has before.

He doesnt appear to be in pain, and seems to like it.

Many dogs with little body fat and hair sit with their butts slightly
off the ground. My Dane does it, I've seen Dobies, Bostons, even
Dachshunds sit this way.

Sounds like he's scratching himself on the furniture behind him
