when my dog was about 1 1/2 years old, she (36 lbs., chow/korgie mix) jumped up for a ball and landed on her left rear leg, and yelped. she limped over the next few days. i went online looking for info on hip displasia, since she's a long-bodied dog, and read in a couple of places that recommended fish oil capsules and glucosamine/chondroitin daily. i started giving her these suppliments, then realized i should probably ask the vet about this. he said he routinely 'prescribes' the combination to dogs. i've been giving her the pills with her morning meal for nearly a year. i don't remember any specific web sites i visited -- just google. i'm big on supplementation anyway, so it was an easy decision to supplement the dog.
hope this helps.
