Default US Pet Owner Survey

Hello everyone,
I am a student at the University of Pennsylvania working on a survey of
US pet owners. The aim of this survey is to research the relationship
between pet owners and their pets and in particular their attitudes
towards their pet's health. Three years ago a similar survey was
conducted and administered by posting the link on pet friendly groups
such as this. That survey ultimately resulted in over 3,000 responses
and motivated the students who created it to develop a new pet health
insurance venture that has partnered with Petplan, which is the
world's oldest and largest pet health insurance provider. I am now an
intern working with Petplan this summer to administer this year's
survey which aims to identify and track changes in pet owners'
attitudes over the past three years.

I am writing to request your participation in this survey. If you have
any questions please do not hesitate to contact me at
.

Finally should you require verification of my position as a summer
associate at Petplan please e-mail
or call
1-866-GOPETPLAN.

To take the survey please just click on the following link:

Kind regards,

Sarah Friedman

Are you working on the survey as part of your academic work,
or is this market research for your employer?

msnbc.com recently ran a pretty good article on pet care
health costs, and they recommended pet health savings
account over insurance. Here's why:

But the cost for insurance over an animals lifetime can
range from $2,000 to $6,000. Not everyone will need to
spend that much on veterinary bills throughout a pets
life, and exclusions for breed-specific conditions can
mean that many expenses wont be reimbursed. Deductibles,
caps and other limitations of coverage can also limit
reimbursements.

Vanna Condax of Chapel Hill, N.C., purchased insurance
for her two Scottish Deerhounds when they were
puppies. One of the puppies turned out to have been born
with a liver shunt. That condition is known to be a
problem in deerhounds and the insurance company excluded
it from coverage, so none of the $5,600 in veterinary
bills was reimbursed. The second deerhound fractured his
pelvis in the coursing field at age 3. At that point,
Condax had spent $1,296 on insurance premiums for
him. The cost of diagnosis and treatment came to $6,050,
but after deductibles and other limitations, she ended
up being reimbursed only $112.
