what worms are these?
My lab defecated on her morning walk and, when picking it up, I saw white
worms waving about like short fat hairs on the turds. These worms, maybe 10 of them, are only about 1/4"-3/8" long, and don't look like any of the pictures of common worms I find on the web (they look a lot like maggots). This dog seems perfectly healthy for a 13-year-old and the stool is firm. The worms were tunneled into the stool. What kind of worms are these and how should they be treated? Thanks, Dave |

Thanks, Dave Sound like tapeworms, which come from ingesting fleas. Treat dog for fleas at the same time you get tapeworm medication from your vet. -- Janet B www.bestfriendsdogobedience.com http://pg.photos.yahoo.com/ph/bestfr...bedience/album |

I find no fleas on the dog, but she is overdue for a Frontline application and the vet agrees with you. I'm taking her for an injection tomorrow. Odd, after all these years to get infected. I'm wondering if all the local squirrels have tapeworms. A few years ago they started completely stripping unripe fruit off our fruit trees and killing tree limbs by chewing off the bark. Thanks for the the reply. Dave |

The squirrels most likely have fleas, so they most likely have tapeworms. I've often wished there was some sort of squirrel "food" I could put out that would de-worm and de-flea them! -- 8^)~~~ Sue (remove the x to e-mail) ~~~~~~ "I reserve the absolute right to be smarter today than I was yesterday." -Adlai Stevenson http://www.suzanne-eckhardt.com/ http://www.intergnat.com/malebashing/ http://www.intergnat.com/pussygames/ |
