I saw a dog acting like that on Animal Planet once. It was trying to eat
it's food, and then growling and biting at it's own front paw. Wieeeerd.
For some reason it cannot make a distinction between itself and other
dogs, which is a strong argument showing that dogs do not have any sort
of self-awareness like what humans possess. Perhaps it's also a form of
paranoia, similar to a person being afraid of his own shadow.

I've seen this one before - if you look carefully underneath the dog you'll
see some stupid pillock's hand coming up from underneath the back of the
sofa, which he's very lucky to have kept. If I'd been that dog, I would have
amputated it for him.
