This is a hard subject.I have had my own dog and everyone elses.I am the
family and neibrhood dog care babysitter ha!Ha! anyway I was always around
dogs my whole life .I have seen certain dogs that had bad teeth at way to
early of an age and the owners ignored it.I have also seen dogs have there
teeth cleaned and the owner didnt ignore it and the problem came right
back.I have had vets tell me the smaller the breed the smaller the teeth
the quiker they build up tarter and there teeth just go.I think some of
its in the breed too.I have a thirteen year old dog .He is my baby.I feed
him dog food up intill he was thirteen. He ate alot of vita bones .He has
perfect teeth.I had his teeth cleaned at age 3 age 5 and around age 8.I
cant do it anymore because he is to old now and I am not willing to take
the risk.My dog can no longer have dog food. I have to cook all of his
food .He has a reaction to the by product in the food.I agree with you dog
food from the store really isnt what it is made out to be.Its fool of
junk.I do feel you need some because the hard dog food can keep there
teeth clean.I am not to happy with dog food companies .I dont think they
are the cause of teeth trouble ,but I dont think they are the best thing
for a dog.I am against canned dog food because it doesnt clean the teeth
and it goes straight threw there system.I use vita bones on my dog and I
cook extra lean hamberger with rice and vegatables and a side dish of
cottage cheese ,but he is old now when he was younger I did use hard dog
food.I think a dog owner should have the dogs teeth cleaned by a vet at
least once around age five. Some dogs dont let home owners brush there
teeth.Another thing rawhide is okay for some dogs but its harder to dygest
for other dogs the man made stuff like denta bone and pedigress buessy
bone seems to be a good cleaner if your dogs not eating hard dog food like
mone.vita bone is cheaper. This is one of those topics were an owner cant
win because its always better to feed your dog a homecooked deit for dogs
but than again withought the hard dog food there teeth gets dirtier and
you have to find other means to clean them
