Default What dog flea controls are effective?

What's the latest, safest, most effective flea control for dogs? My Lab
mix is going nuts scratching.I've read about creams you can put on the
dog for flea control. Is this effective? How about a pill the dog
swallows that works systemically? Perhaps a shot the vet can give him?
Thanks.

Frontline for fleas or Frontline Plus for fleas and ticks

Don't forget you have to treat the infestation especially if it's gotten
bad. This means the carpets, drapes, furniture, dog bedding and the outside
yard. Any place the dog goes has the potential to re-infest the dog.

Thanks for the advice. I usually vacuum inside for fleas too.
Fortunately we have wood floors so the fleas can't hide. Regards, Bob.

Vacuum with an activated flea collar on the vacuum cleaner bag (that's the
only useful place for one of those) then immediately throw the bag out in an
outdoor trash can. If need be, get everyone and pets out of the house and
bomb it while at the same time treating said animals with the
Advantage/Frontline products. Don't forget to retreat the pets every 30
days.
