Default Pigeons

The two pigeons we rescued this spring seem to have settled in our
garage. They are not locked into the garage but they like to spend
time and sleep in the garage. They requires daily clean-up and leaving
the garage door open but they are worth it because they sing for us
whenever we go into the garage. Right now, it is no problem but we may
want to sell next year and wonder what will become of them. How can
you encourage them to return to their pigeon life without harming them?

I'm sorry to have to tell you, that IS their normal pigeon life. City
pigeons, which have evolved into pretty much parasites, settle happily into
any enclosed space they can worm their way into, and quickly render it a
stinky, lice-ridden mess if someone doesn't clean up after them. They will
return to the same place often even from hundreds of miles away for the rest
of their lives, and so will their children, and their children. About the
only hope you have is to stop providing any food or water, seal any
entrances to the garage so that they cannot get back in, and get one of
those electronic pigeon repellers that makes some sort of noise. Those don't
usually work very well, as I understand it, but some people have good luck
with them, and unless those birds start finding things very unpleasant there
they will stay. And even if you do manage to drive them away they'll
probably check back every few days or weeks to see if things have improved
again. Good luck!
