Xnews question
Greetings:
Can someone who is more Xnews savvy than I explain how to kill a thread? Three guesses as to which thread I wish to kill... Thanks. -- Catherine & Zoe the cockerchow & Queenie the black gold retriever & Rosalie the calico |

128.143.2.66: Greetings: Can someone who is more Xnews savvy than I explain how to kill a thread? Three guesses as to which thread I wish to kill... Open the thread and click on the first article in the thread. Artcile - Add to Score File - Kill entire thread (it is in presets on the bottom) Depending on how long the thread gets, you might have to repeat it. Other ways include killing crosposting based on the group that it is being crossposted to. For example, in the thread that I have killfiled, I would kill all crossposts to alt.terrorism.world-trade-center alt.obituaries us.military.national-guard rec.photo.digital I am unlikely to ever read anything in any one of those forums, so any posts that come from there are likely to be so much useless noise to me. To killfile on the crossposts Article - Add to Score file - Once there, unselect all of the buttons except for XRef. Pick the group that you want to kill off of, and then go to the top and select the Kill radio button. Viola!! -- Marcel and Moogli http://mudbunny.blogspot.com/ |

128.143.2.66: Greetings: Can someone who is more Xnews savvy than I explain how to kill a thread? Three guesses as to which thread I wish to kill... Best way to figure out the score.ini fill is to use "Article..Add to score file" then open it in notepad or your favorite text editor. Although it is helpful to learn regular expressions (they are quite daunting when you first encounter them), you only need to know a few things: [^(rec|alt)\..*\.dogs?\.] covers all of the standard dog related newsgroups. You don't need to know what it means, just use it for the dog scoring section. "|" (shift backslash) means "or" e.g. Sco: -9999 Subject: Amazing|AnimalBehavior|... From: Amazing|Animal|Behavior|... any post with any of the words in the "or"d list will be filtered out when you open the newsgroup \s is space or you can just type a space animal\sbehavior = animal behavior ? means it doesn't have to be there animal\s?behavior so... Sco: -9999 Subject: Amazing|animal\s?behavior|... ^ means beginning of line ^OT: Of course the problem with this is that every time DB changes his From: name, you may have to add a word. If I posted my whole list here, it would just clue him to change it. Maybe it is more complicated than I thought. Regular expressions are fun tho if you are inclined. The XNews manual has a brief but adequate introduction. |
