Default Police know about brute's attacks

Police know about brute's attacks

Oct 3 2005

By The Huddersfield Daily Examiner

A DANGEROUS dog is still on the loose - six months after a savage attack
on a woman.

And in recent weeks it is reported to have attacked two dogs, leaving
one fighting for its life.

Back in April the Examiner told the story of Sharon Mallinson, of Chesil
Bank, Oakes, who was attacked by a Staffordshire bull terrier while
walking her dog near her home.

Story continues Continue story

The vicious dog had escaped from its garden.

Mrs Mallinson, 36, received injuries to her upper arm and upper leg as
she successfully struggled to protect her own dog.

She told police about the attack - and expected action.

But the dog - which lives in Hawes Avenue and is called Chopper - has
attacked again.

Last week it is believed it attacked a 10-year-old mongrel, Toby.

Toby's owner, Phil Orlopp, and two passers- by struggled for five
minutes to get the dog to release its grip.

One man even smashed a plank of wood over the dog's head in an attempt
to save Toby.

The attacking dog - whose owner was not with it - left deep puncture
wounds in Toby's neck, but it is now recovering at home.

There were also reports of an attack on an elderly Tia Greyhound Rescue
dog early in September.

Now Mrs Mallinson wants action.

"I cannot believe this dog is still running around and not even on a
lead," she said.

"I am shocked and very concerned that the police seem unable or
unwilling to take any action.

"It is only a matter of time before someone gets very seriously injured.

"I am frightened a child could be walking their dog and come across this
dog. It needs to be stopped."

Mrs Mallinson wants the dog impounded so it cannot attack anybody else.
She added: "This has gone on too long. I want somebody to act."

A police spokeswoman confirmed there had been numerous complaints during
the summer.

She added: "The matter was first reported to police on April 16 and
since then there have been further reports of incidents.

"A man was summonsed in connection with the incident in July."
