ID these mixes
My friend is fostering two dogs. She has one of the "O'lantern" dogs, the first one that you see with the photo. http://search.petfinder.com/petnote/...?petid=5193876 The photos are crappy, I admit. My friend would like to know what they might be mixed with. She's going to get better photos soon. There are three or four dogs in the photos. There were four total, some were adopted and I think two are left. She didn't see the others in person so she's not sure if all the pictures are of all the dogs or if they are repeats. The dogs are supposedly about 12 weeks old. They are marked as being Corgi mixes, and that just looks wrong. oh, and she has another foster. http://search.petfinder.com/petnote/...?petid=5193851. She suspects shepherd mix based on his behavior, but she's not too sure given that his color is very non shepherd ish. She'll also get better photos of him too. natalie -- One thing about the past. Corgi type short legs are a dominant trait, and 1st gen Corgi crosses have always low legs. Perhaps not as short as a typical show bred Pembroke Corgi, but clearly short anyway. Are these all from a same litter? The fluffy-looking one looks like a Chow cross (and the other parent might be a Golden Retriever, for example), but one of the pups is a piebald. There has been something like one piebald Chow ever, and so 1st gen Chow crosses can't have very much white. Something like white paws and a necktie are possible, perhaps even a white collar but not over 50 % white. Anyway, one parent is most probably prick-eared and the other lop-eared. At least one of them is short-coated, and at least one of them should have some white (but doesn't have to be a piebald). Hmm, perhaps Samoyed instead of Chow? That could explain the coat colors. The other parent could be a Labrador crossed with something which has long coat and at least moderate amount of white. There seems to be so much variation in the litter that it is possible that at least one parent isn't purebred. oh, and she has another foster. http://search.petfinder.com/petnote/...?petid=5193851. Color, coat type (not long but not totally smooth either) and ear carriage would be possible from that cross. Liisa |

She's had the first one in the series of photos overnight (the others went to either different foster homes or were adopted) so she should have some insight into his behavior. Are these all from a same litter? Yep! There seems to be so much variation in the litter that it is possible that at least one parent isn't purebred. That is what I was thinking.
