Default new Chihuahua puppy

I recently obtained an 8 week puppy, which is my first. I'm trying to be
patient, but it gets a little exasperating when puppy won't "go potty" on
the paper even though I know she needs to. She's very quick and moves fast
across the room and before I know it there is a number 1 or 2 on the carpet.
Is the trick just to be patient and keep trying. She's only been with me
for a week. I'm trying to crate train her. She spends most of her off time
in her "den" which holds her toys, food and water. Another problem is that
she constantly chews. I offer her alternatives to the carpet and my hand,
but she chews on anything that's near. Any suggestions besides knowing
that training takes time and patience? Is there anything I can do to
influence her besides food and vocal rewards?

The foundations of all good relationships are built on love and patience.

Nurturing this is par the course - at least for those of us that appreciate
our canid buds for what they are - dirty, smelly, happy-go-lucky (and licky)
