limping after hard run
My Golden is 8 1/2 Lately after a hard run in the woods, later that night
he limps. My first thought was some time back while running in the woods, snow and ice.. he might have hurt himself and now when he runs hard he re-hurts his leg... The other could be just his age... I didn't take him to the vet yet, so I can give them a good chunk of change to hear, yea he's older and probably strained his leg. The limping is only the night of a hard run and after he's been resting. Glucosamine ?? |

If it's a soft tissue injury, and there's a chance it is, those can take a very long time to heal and can become reinjured easily. You didn't say how much later, but arthritis tends to be more uncomfortable after idleness (when just waking up, for example) and less uncomfortable after exercise. I certainly would not assume arthritis and keep up a high level of exercise until injury had been ruled out. -- Melinda Shore - Software longa, hardware brevis - Prouder than ever to be a member of the reality-based community. |

limping after hard run
Later..... 8:00 I think it's a soft tissue injury over arthritis..... if
this is the fact, what would a vet do.. thanks Joel "Melinda Shore" wrote in message ... In article , jojo wrote: Lately after a hard run in the woods, later that night he limps. The treatment is very different apart from keeping the dog quiet while the injury heals. When I have a dog that limps, if it's severe the dog goes to the vet and if it's moderate I keep him/her quiet for a few days to see if it clears up. It usually does, but if it doesn't we go to the vet. With an older dog I wouldn't wait as long. You can't diagnose this stuff yourself. -- Melinda Shore - Software longa, hardware brevis - Prouder than ever to be a member of the reality-based community. |

limping after hard run
Last March my sheltie injured her hind leg and she was limping after activity. After some time I took her to the vet and the diagnosis was cranial cruciate injury. She was confined for months on rest and later to low activity. She limped like an old dog when getting up after sleeping. I was seriously thinking of looking into surgery but she did improve. It is just now that she has stopped limping after a run but I'm taking things easy and she has lost some weight which I hope will help. The vet did prescribe Glucosamine. limping after hard run
Well I'm glad the vet visit was just $37 .. yea it's a minor strain.. try
glucosamine.. but it's good to be clear... he has these old lick spots on his back legs that have grown scar tissue, and even though I knew that's all they were I had to make sure it wasn't something else that's part of the limp...
