Can anyone suggest the average yearly cost of owning a Great Dane?
(assuming minimal health problems occur, i.e. just the basic expenses)

From a quickie search (do you know how to use Google?):

" A good rule of thumb for raising a Dane is to allow about $100 per
month for food, treats, toys, vet bills, etc."

This
list is provided by a good Dane breeder to all potential puppy buyers. Some
of these items are optional, and costs will very based on where you live.
And remember that some of these are one time costs, while others are
recurring expenses.

I particularly like the vehicle cost estimate.......

This is a really tough question to answer. I will assume that adequate
research is done so you find a responsible breeder who does all the
recommended health testing and pedigree analysis, and you therefore get a
puppy who does not inherit many of the problems inherent in the breed. This
list is provided by a good Dane breeder to all potential puppy buyers. Some

Are Dane people still using raised feeders to prevent bloat? That was
one of the things that I noticed in the Purdue study was that raised
feeders aren't such a good idea.

Saskia costs us considerably less when her specific health problems (now all
safely diagnosed and treated or managed, so all the BIG vet bills are over,
barring anything new) and her spay/gastropexy are left out of it. She eats a
specialty food (Mastery Sensitive) which we have sent to the door; it's
costing us 50 Euros a month. Her health insurance is about 20 Euros a month.
There is no heartworm here in this country, and the vaccinations are every 3
years and do not include rabies (no rabies here either), and we only need
flea/tick protection (Frontline) in summer. Regular worming is, I guess,
about 20 Euros every couple of months. We have no vehicle. Her leash was
about 15 Euros and is lasting well. Her collars were costing us around 12
Euros every couple of months until she grew up; then we shelled out 37 Euros
on the Rogz giant-breed wide nylon collar and she's been wearing it for a
year; it's machine-washable. Her harness (also Rogz, nylon) was about 25
Euros and grew with her (fully adjustable) and still has room to spare. She
also costs us about 5 Euros per two weeks in treats, and 50 cents a day in
tennis balls. Her bed was 65 Euros (giant-size Doggy Bagg). Oh, and about 4
Euros a week in poop bags, but that's because I use the recycled-paper ones;
if you used any old bag left over from your shopping or whatever that would
not need to be factored in.
