Ovcharka a Miss Nomer
For some reason Caucasian people have decided to translate HALF the
dogs name. Full Name for the Caucasian is , Kavkazskaia Ovtcharka NOT Caucasian Ovcharka. But I guess the correct translations to "shepherds dogs " or sheepdogs, or dog to graze with sheep_ is too boring_ and keeps them out of the "rare " area for promotions. And keeping the full original name is too hard to market. And some people need to feel special by stating they have Exotic "Ovcharkas' vs shepherds dogs_ sad. Which adds to more backyard bred promotions. Something I have worked for 10 years againest. We had tons of "rescues" being marketed as "Ovcharkas the rare dogs without IDing what Ovcharka it is? Like saying you own a bulldog without naming the type of bulldog you have. The buying public being stupid would spend top dollar on them and then they are in need of rescue. SO half translations for the 1st time in dog breed history is the norm. Which is why the CAO in this country is known _CORRECTLY as the Central Asian Shepherd Dog.. It is also known in Central Asia as "shepherds dogs " plus a long list of other native names __ excluding OVCHARKA !! Since it was a name IMPROPERLY put on a breed during FORCED Occupation of their homeland. Note all USA Purebred dogs are Reg as CAS or imported as SAO . The only CAO are back yard bred mutts being bred by the Puppymill and reg thru ARBA. Now unless Russian Or Slavic is the US Native tongue that I dont know about. We are using the correct terms for the CAS. If not the breed would be known correctly as [Sredneasiastskaia Ovtcharka] As per UKC: http://mail.ukcdogs.com/UKCweb.nsf/8...257044005db4f2 As Per AKC: http://www.akc.org/breeds/central_as..._dog/index.cfm Picture is the 3 "Ovcharka breeds South Russian Sheepdog - AKA SROvcharka Central Asian Shepherd Dog -AKA CAOvcharka Caucasian Shepherd dogs - AKA Note it is a INSULT to the the Origins of the dogs of Central Asia to use the misnomer for their native breeds stolen by the Russians during the Cold War. Ovcharka in Central Asian = MONGREL based on the GSD's that were left there LOOSE after the Russian pulled out when the Former USSR fell. Here is a picture of one of these CROSS bred GSD X Central Asian. http://www.centralasianshepherd.homestead.com/jdp.jpg Shepherds dogs were around LONG before "Ovcharka was a WORD. But while be politically Correct when you can be backyard breeder correct. In addition the Russians changed their standard for the SAO in 2000 6 years ago creating their own version of the breed. Breeding away from the FCI World Wide standard has had its tol on the original breed type of Central Asian Shepherd dogs. To the point one day of the breeds being split down the middle, Jeannine De Palma Founder Cassa, Molosser Olympics, Planetmolosser -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- |

Ovcharka a Miss Nomer
Of course,
Had 4 emails with Ny State bred Ovcharka for sale adds spent most of my weekend trying to help these people, And then got in 2 ovcharka "rehomes" that have to be placed. Spent more time trying to find out if they were Caucasian or Central Asian or even South russian dogs based on the message left on my machine. Doing rescues and seeing BSL grow daily concerning missnomers can make you very jaded.. So other than the 1st paragraph wich was too blunt the rest are just facts not wrapped in chit chat..... Next time I get in a bunch of issues concerning Rescue I should follow my own advice and NOT go online for 24 hrs. Everytime a dog is in a sitution where they can possible be misstreated or die i often get so angrey...... Well i start Yoga when the weather breaks got my mat and everything that should help. Nice to meet you Jeannine D |
