dog swimming in sea
Hello
I like to swim in the sea, is it OK for my 1 year old Colly/lurcher dog to join me. Yesterday I took him to to the sea, I walked out to about my middle and he swam for his second time. He seemed to love it but at the same time he seemed unsure. When ever I went back in he followed but saying that he would follow me in to a fire. What's the situation with dogs in the sea, is it safe fo them? Darren |

Darren hi, My dog used to be scared of water! i told a trainer i wanted to get her used to the water and she said "oh that's easy!" then dragged my scarred baby (by the prong collar) into a kiddie pool. she talked to her in a confident "Im the boss" tone. what worked was encouraging my wonderful puppy with praise to follow me into the water for play, no force at all. (and this was while i was still using the prong collar) now she loves, loves, loves water! (even icky dirty water) she will find water in the woods to go jump in and if im driving by water and tell her about it she gets up to see lol. she gets very happy at the word "swimmin" she is not sure about actually swimming though she only did that once and it was by accident. she jumped off the dock thinking the water wasn't so deep... im like a proud mom talking about my pup, lol, oh well :-) crystal |

Given that you had trainers this horrible, it makes sense that you've cleaved to Jerry. Just know, however, that you truly had a crap trainer. I don't know *anyone* (including trainers who use prong collars in their practice) who would even think of doing something like this. Tara |

Tara hi tara , thats good to know , if there arent many like her thats a good thing, however she was very highly recommended, had wonderful, "german" gsd s , did shows and all that:-( i think alot of trainers would drag my dog to "get her started" becasue she would never do anything on her own........ i taught her "1 2 3 out, good girl!" just to get out of my car! she does not go for walks except in the woods, she was probably traumatized during the first few trainers methods to enjoy it. i once had a humane society person stop me on the side on the road becasue starr looked so scared! but i was doing what the trainer told me to do:-( she was just too nervous! i thanked her for caring enough to stop though, even though it scared starr alot.... crystal |
