hives and hallucinations
I am at a loss here. My English Bull terrior, when I go to bed, has about 5
bumps on her skin and seems very restless. The next morning she is covered in, what my vet said, the worst case of hives ever. She also seems to be searching for something on the floor. The vet gives her a shot of steroids and a shot of antihistimine. When I get home, it is obvious my dog is constantly searching for bugs on the floor, refusing to come inside the house, and becomes unresponsive to commands. My vet says it's a reaction to the antihistimine, but I think the behavior started BEFORE the shot. The bumps are about gone, but the behavior is still there (although not as bad), 24 hours later. Any ideas? Scott |

Do you use any kind of flea/tick repellant on your dog? Is this the first time this has happened? She also seems to be searching for something on the floor. How often, and when, does she do that? What do you do when she's doing that? What's under the floor (e.g., basement, crawl space, etc.). Does she only do it one room? Or in other rooms, too? Do the room's floors have carpeting? The vet gives her a shot of steroids and a shot of antihistimine. When I get home, it is obvious my dog is constantly searching for bugs on the floor, What do you do when she does that? Any ideas? Scott Mine (Belgian Malinois) had that same problem several years ago with her skin turning red and she was unable to sleep (or eat) because of her distress. She would snap at invisible objects in the air and look for invisible objects on the floor. Pretty miserable pooch. After $400 or so worth of vet tests, I opted to treat her for everything that 'could' be wrong, and I also changed her food to one w/o preservatives. So, she received some steroids, a bit of broad spectrum bug killer (Revolution) and only natural food. I think it was the food as it has never come back, and I've never fed her anything but human-grade, non-preserved food since. It's really cheaper in the long run than vet bills. (I know there will be the inevitable flames at treating her for everything... but she was a mass of misery, and I was afraid she would go crazy from the itching and lack of sleep.) HTH. SC |

When you treat for "everything," all at one time, and the "problem" gets resolved, you don't really know what it was that created or caused the "problem" in the first place. Was it really something in the food? If so, what? Was it some kind of bug bite? If so, what kind of bug? Was it something else altogether, that, this time anyway, resolved all by itself? Etc. You still don't know what actually caused the original problem, and sometimes that can be dangerous down the road. I think you're probably okay, but...next time (hopefully there won't be a next time) you might one to take those treatments one at a time, provided there's no life-threatening situation, etc. Anyway, good luck! -- Handsome Jack Morrison Hezbollah Video Dating Service: http://www.adammutterperl.com/video/hezbollah.mov Norwegian Author: "Israel Is History" http://ace.mu.nu/archives/189524.php Reuters admits altering Beirut photo! http://www.ynetnews.com/articles/0,7...286966,00.html Hezbollah is using the UN as its bitch. http://jameshudnall.com/blog.php?/we..._un_is_a_joke/ The Brink of Madness.
