Dog Book Recommendations
I would like to get some suggestions from anyone who might have any
ideas thoughts on what books I should read as a new dog owner. If you could suggest five dog books for someone to read what would they be? I'd be interested in both puppy & adult dog related subjects though puppihood is my most immediate need. I read some of the new skete books a long time ago and thought that I might want to reread them since it has been several years. Thanks. |

I was in the same situation--bought both of the Monks of New Skete books in the mid 90's, but reread them recently when a new puppy entered our life, and what they've trained matches nicely to the dog club I'm attending with obedience training. -- Todd H. http://www.toddh.net/ |

I usually buy books that are breed specific, so I have a few books each on Poodles, Lhasas, Chow Chows and Rottweilers. |

Some of these don't exactly fall into the 'Dog Training' realm necessarily, but are interesting reads, nonetheless. In no particular order: Don't shoot the dog - Karen Pryor The Other End of the Leash - Patricia McConnell The Power of Positive Dog Training - Pat Miller Dogs - Coppinger & Coppinger I haven't done any puppy stuff myself, but these have been recommended by people I trust: Before & After Getting Your Puppy - Dunbar (also Sirius puppy training videos by him). You should probably see what your local library has to offer. Mine has most of these books. Suja |

There are a couple of chapters on how-to at the end. I liked it very much. ======== ========= |
