He is a white Staffie, and i have been told that white dogs are prone to loads of health problems - is this true? i have 2 staffies and my other one, a 1 year old (red colour) female one is fine. thanks |

But it's best to have the vet do an exam and blood work to rule out kidney disease or diabetes. -Sharon |

If it is a behaviour problem, how should i address /deal with it? |

Do you mean to say your dog has had a complete set of bloodwork (CBC and chemistry panel), plus a urinalysis and they cannot find any kidney problems or diabetes? If that is the case I'd move on to endocrine problems as someone else mentioned. I really think that excessive drinking as a behavioral problem would be way down on the list for me. buglady take out the dog before replying |

When we were working with the internist at Cornell to figure out what was going on with Greta (seizures, excessive drinking [I measured 5 liters/day]), he said that behavior causes for polydipsia are possible but exceedingly rare. In Greta's case it turned out to be a pituitary mass. -- Melinda Shore - Software longa, hardware brevis - Prouder than ever to be a member of the reality-based community |

He does pant alot but always has, he always drank more than our other dog but he must be drinking at least 7-8 pints a day now...he is a highly energetic dog, he never sits down and is always looking for something to do (like catch flies or dig in the garden) we do walk him 2-3 times a day to try and calm him but he is just a big ball of energy! he has started to chase his trail alot recently, this started at the same time as the excessive drinking ... |

Cushings Disease?
Any other symptoms - panting alot? /dan what's Cushings Disease? Cushings: http://www.vetinfo.com/dcushing.html...en ocorticism Drinking a lot - excessively - is one symptom of cushings, but so is panting and hair loss (though usually bilateral, not spot speicif). I agree with other posters - you need to seek out other medical diagnoses such as Cushings or at least discuss this with your vet. -Sharon |
