The Pretext: Guess the daddy
Things that make you go Awwwww.... http://search.petfinder.com/shelterS...N401&preview=1 Check out the baby Pyrenees. I think that's mama's head in the pic with Kasey (about as adorable as a pictue can get). So, who's the daddy? Dammit, why couldn't I live in Tennessee? Suja |

http://search.petfinder.com/shelterS...i?shelterid=TN 401&preview=1 Check out the baby Pyrenees. I think that's mama's head in the pic with Kasey (about as adorable as a pictue can get). So, who's the daddy? Well, daddy is certainly not a purebred Labrador or a purebred Golden like they guess. Mom is ee, and the baby has dark spots. That means that sire can't be ee, and that rules Golden Retriever and all other ee dogs out. Pup is clearly swsw extreme white spotted (like most Pyrs), and it has to have inherited one sw from sire. That rules Labs (and all other retrievers) out. Pup looks fluffy, and that means most probably that it is ll long-coated. So the sire has to have at least one l allele, and that also rules Labs out. So, the sire is anything which is not ee yellow, homozygous for LL short hair or homozygous for SS solid. The pup should be at least 2 months old before real "guess my daddy's breed" game can be played. And it would also be nice to see the siblings. Oh, Kasey is actually one of that big litter, and the siblings are really shown here! Some of the pups are ee, some are not. Some are swsw, some are solid. Some of the Ee pups look like sable, some have dark patches - solid black or tanpoint? Or just darker sable? Several of them have a very strong urajiro (countershading). So the sire (assuming that there is just one sire) is at least Ee Ssw (assuming that dam is swsw, can't tell for sure as it is so pale). It is possible that there are short-coated pups too, which would make the sire Ll. My guess: Siberian Husky, or more probably a cross with half some arctic breed (Sibe, Malamute, Alaskan Husky) and half something else, perhaps retriever. Hehe, lots of "assuming" here! Liisa |
