Question on Maremma sheepdogs.
Hi,
I have a couple quick questions relating to maremma's. For those who aren't familiary with them, these are a breed on sheepdog bred to to live with herds of sheep or other livestock. Is it possible to bond a 2 yo maremma with sheep and is it likely that a 2yo will bond? The dog I'm speaking off (who is female) has never interacted with sheep or other livestock before. Regards, Dewi. |

Yes. Likely? I wouldn't expect it. There is a reason the dogs are raised with and live with the livestock from the beginning. They aren't a "sheepdog" They are livestock guardian dogs. The whole pattern of behavior is different between sheepdogs and LGDs. But in case I wouldn't expect a mature Maremma, never exposed to livestock, to be an effective LGD. It could happen, just not high on the list of expectations. -- Diane Blackman There is no moral victory in proclaiming to abhor violence while preaching with violent words. http://dog-play.com/ http://dogplayshops.com/ |
