Default tick removal - hope i got the head?

I just did my first tick removal on my dog. I first tried to suffocate
it with NuSkin, and then I ultimately saturated it with isopropyl
alcohol. It never really "crawled" out on its own, though, so I pulled
VERY gently. What came out is a large, tick-shaped thing with a skinny
protrusion coming off the head. Very small and pointy. It looks like a
pair of tiny, straight pincers. My question is, do ticks have a larger,
round head? Or is the pincer coming off the top the part that you're
supposed to get out? Here's a diagram of what my tick looks like:

Now, let's suppose I DIDN'T get the head. What now??

Thanks in advance,
Jen
