Default Chihuahua illness

My 4 year old Chihuahua started having attacks in February. Very
randomly, when he loses power in his front legs and back hunches up and
his rear legs kind of twist round. I took him to 2 vets who weren't
able to diagnose anything and mentioned possibilities of epilepsy,
heart problems. Then the 3rd vet realised that Chihui has a very bad
urine infection, that he's probably had for months and months. So we've
started treatment and now he's been for 1 month on antibiotics, as the
infection has reduced, but not gone away. The vet says that as the
attacks continue (although much less), Chihui could have developed
epilepsy as a secondary effect of being ill for months with the urine
infection. I didn't realise he was so ill as he was full of life, the
only symptoms being the attacks, and now I realise retrospectively that
he wasn't jumping around as much.
Does anyone have a similar experience, or know anything about secondary
epilepsy?
Thanks X

My dog has primary epilepsy, so all I know of secondary epilepsy
is second hand. That said, this is the first I've heard of a
UTI initiating seizures, though anything is possible when it
comes to epilepsy - it's a hard disease to get a handle on.

Certainly, other infections like encephalitis or distemper can
be involved in secondary epilepsy. Ask your vet whether a
cerebrospinal fluid analysis (to test for such infections) is
appropriate in your situation.
