Goldie Help
We have a 9 month old female golden retriever. We are looking for help
training her to stay off the furniture and to stop play biting. She is going to be a fairly big dog so we need to address this soon. I've also noticed that she stands over the kids. It's my understanding that this is a bad thing. The kids are 2 and 3 years old. She seems to have a good temperament. I have never seen her snap or act aggressive. She acts like a pub with the digging and chewing everything. My big concern is with her standing over the kids. |

This link should provide some help: http://www.dogplay.com/youth.html#safety And this book: http://www.4mdogbooks.com/Child-Proo...291.cfm?AFID=3 But what you also need to do is enroll yourself and your pup in a good OBEDIENCE training class ASAP. I don't think the pup standing over your kid is necessarily a bad thing (it's kind of hard for a nine month old GR not to stand over a 2 year old, when their playing), but it depends on the dog, and what you mean exactly by standing over the dog. What you're describing is pretty typical puppy behavior. And it can all be dealt with quite easily, provided you know how. Good luck with your new pup! -- Handsome Jack Morrison |
