Default Behavior with Toys

I've mentioned that Harriet has always been kind of "meh" about
toys? She'd play with them with other dogs or with me, but she's
never been keen on playing with them on her own.

Well, that's changed. She's decided that toys--balls,
especially--are all kinds of crazy fun. I think part of it is the
change in scenery. When we moved, it took me awhile to unpack her
toys, so when I finally set up her toy box, she was downright giddy
about it. Maybe absence makes the heart grow fonder? Or maybe they
were packed up long enough that when they were unpacked, they seemed
new to her? Whatever it was, she's become a fiend for toys.

Weirdo.

Another thing I've noticed is that I can tell just by her footsteps,
whether or not she's got a ball in her mouth. She can be out of
sight--two rooms away and on carpet!--but the tempo and weight of
her footsteps gives her away. I haven't matched visual observations
to the aural ones, so I don't know for sure, but I suspect she
starts prancing whenever she picks up a ball.

Again, weirdo!

Try one of those Planet Dog Orbees.. They bounce, they are soft, they are
indestructibler chewie. They bounce unpredictably. Tuck isn't a ball
fiend, nor is a chewie fiend, but he loves his orbee bone.

Harriet chews on real bones, and will gut woobies, but otherwise,
she's not a serious chewer. A plain old tennis ball will last her
for months before the felt gets nappy and gross, and even then, she
doesn't shred it. She seems to understand that balls are for
playing with, not chewing.

I checked out Planet Dog's website, and am impressed! I may have to
get something from them for Harriet for Hmas.
