Blood in last few drops of dog's urine
My dog is a 2 year old miniature pinscher. Three days ago he had knee
surgery, and he came home yesterday. He has been eating normally and has been drinking at least as much water as normal. He has not asked to got outside to urinate more often than before his surgery, but since he came home, the last few drops of his urine look red like they contain blood. The urine before the last drops is a normal yellow color. When I blot off the remaining liquid with a tissue, the urine is slightly red, and sometimes there appears to be some coagulated blood (bright red). I am taking him back to the vet tomorrow for an examination. He is taking an antibiotic and pain medication because he had surgery, but the vet said that these should not cause blood in the urine and that the antibiotic should be preventing any UTI or bladder infections. The vet also mentioned the possibility of the blood being related to the breakdown of muscle tissue related to the surgery. The dog does not seem to avoid urination due to pain. Any ideas? |

Hope it's nothing serious and your pup mends quickly. buglady take out the dog before replying |

Blood in last few drops of dog's urine
After doing a urinalysis, the vet thinks that my dog has a kidney
infection. It turns out that the post-surgery antibiotic the dog has been on would be effective against UTI or bladder infection but probably not kidney. The vet changed the antibiotic to one that would better treat kidney infection, and hopefully this new antibiotic will get rid of the infection. Interestingly, my dog has not needed to urinate more often than usual, but this is evidently a normal symptom of a kidney infection in dogs. |
