Default Strange behavior

I have a two year old Lab that gets excited when i come home, but every
once in a while he becomes timid and goes into a corner when i arrive.
He almost looks scared. My demeanor is always the same when i greet
him. I pet and give him a big hug. Any ideas why he expresses this
behavior?

Not sure why your Lab seems timid sometimes and other times not, but
what I do when I leave my dog at home or anywhere and then return back
is to not make a big deal about going or returning. I keep everything
low key as though I will be back in a minute. I say, "I'll be back"
that's it. When I return, I keep my voice low key and say" Hi Devon,
and give her one pat on the head and keep walking in past her. I
never come in and greet her with a high pitched excited voice. That
would get her all worked up. I never want to make a big deal about my
leaving her or returning home. This attitude reduces any anxiety she
might have about my leaving her. I never have any problems with
leaving her alone in the house; she is quite content knowing I will be
back soon.
