easy poop pickup!
This ice crust sure does make for easy pooper-scooping! Poop just sits
on the surface, no sinking at all! Heck - *I* didn't sink, and unfortunately, I'm no lightweight. I kept expecting to break through the top layer, but it never happened. Now, that's good and bad. It means the foot deep plow wall at the end of my driveway, has no hope of being shoveled. Which is bad, because driving over it isn't simple. OTOH, I'm not even tempted to try to tackle it again (as I said to DH yesterday, I decided that he would prefer to drive over a plow wall, than a plow wall AND his wife's body!), which means I can stay in and content that I've done all I can do. I am a worrywort though. Franklin spun out in the yard, down a little hill, and I'm a bit paranoid about someone breaking something, so no ball playing as long as we have this skating rink of a yard. -- Janet Boss www.bestfriendsdogobedience.com |

Same-same. I did let the dogs run this morning. Between no dog park and abbreviated walks, they've just not been getting the kind of exercise they're used to. I nearly peed my pants laughing last night. Harriet was a popsicle, despite being swaddled in a million damned blankets while I trundled off to work for a few hours. When I came home, the power was back on, but it took awhile for the house to warm up. It was obvious when Miss Brown finally thawed out, because she suddenly popped out of her nest and started tearing around like a beast possessed. It was *hysterically* funny. It's supposed to be really cold for the next couple of days, with snow on Saturday. Then it's supposed to warm up. I'm hoping it'll be warm and dry enough to get Harriet out for some real exercise, before we both lose our minds. -- Shelly http://www.cat-sidh.net (the Mother Ship) http://esther.cat-sidh.net (Letters to Esther) |

@newssvr11.news.prodigy.net: I'm hoping it'll be warm and dry enough to get Harriet out for some real exercise, before we both lose our minds. Amen to that. Q's daycare was closed yesterday, which makes us all a bit sad. Love the story about the popsicle unthawing! Zoe starts zipping around like that in the fall -- she prefers the cold, opposite to Harriet. -- Catherine & Zoe the cockerchow & Queenie the black gold retriever & Max the pomeranian & Rosalie the calico cat |

It's not quite the same as an outdoor romp, but it might help with the crazies. Love the story about the popsicle unthawing! Zoe starts zipping around like that in the fall -- she prefers the cold, opposite to Harriet. Elliott was like that. He was flat for most of the summer, but as soon as it cooled off in the fall, he'd perk up and turn back into a puppy. -- Shelly http://www.cat-sidh.net (the Mother Ship) http://esther.cat-sidh.net (Letters to Esther) |

I am a worrywort though. Franklin spun out in the yard, down a little hill, and I'm a bit paranoid about someone breaking something, so no ball playing as long as we have this skating rink of a yard. Gotta beware those plow-created ice dams. During the last storm the plows pushed up an 18" tall ramp of ice at the base of our driveway. They came by in the middle of the night so the slush had several hours to freeze quite solid. So my husband comes home at 7 am, and still unused to the lower ground clearance of the HHR, winds up with his vehicle stuck straddling the ice ramp. We all grabbed shovels and chipped away at what we could reach, followed up with rhythmic rocking and gunning of the engine. We finally managed an up-and-over that nearly put the front end of the car through the closed garage door, though not before detaching a strip of trim molding below the front bumper. This time I got out there pronto and shovelled not only my driveway but also the the side section of the street directly upstream. That way, when the plow came by there wasn't nearly as much snow pushed into my driveway. And what was dumped there I cleared all out before it had a chance to freeze solid. The back deck is icy, though. I worry about the dogs. We've had several slipping incidents over the past few months. During the last storm Scully ran outside, couldn't turn and couldn't stop and flew right through the railing and landed down onto the lawn 5 feet below. I suspect Zane has had a scare, too. We have two sets of stairs accessing the deck, the regular ones, and an extremely long set with wide, shallow risers - handicapped stairs my husband built when my old BCs started having trouble going up and down the stairs. And Zane's afraid of both of them when it's icy. I believe he's fallen off one or both of them during bad weather (which probably wouldn't have happed if he wasn't in the habit of charging up the steps going full-tilt boogie). Cooper's main issue is the cold. He just skitters along over the ice and doesn't seem to have any problem with slipping himself, he just has to dodge the careening BCs. He's been wearing his fleece windsuit the past few days, completely without complaint. I take it off him at night so he doesn't wind up electrocuting himself with the static generated by friction between his fleece suit and the fleece blanket. And in the morning he'll actually come to me to have it put on. Poor nekkid terrier... Kathleen |
