Default Not an Einstein Dog

When the weather is nice (IOW, cold), Khan likes to sit outside. I let him
on a long tie out when I'm home, so he can freeze himself to his heart's
content. I usually check on him every 15 or 20 minutes, and ask him if he
wants to come in.

Then last week, I heard a soft woof. Just one lone woof. Not the 'Oh my
god, there are critters out there' bark, or the 'How dare the UPS guy come
anywhere near the neighbor's house' bark. I go over to check on him, and
there he was, standing by the door, wagging his tail, asking in. I let him
in. A couple of days later, it happened again. And again. He's doing it
fairly consistently now, but not 100% of the time.

It has only taken 6 years, but Khan has finally figured out that if he
barks, I'll let him in. Oh, and the brat that he is, he'll woof again
softly, just one more time, if I don't get out there quickly enough for his
satisfaction.

Well, you never know. When Cinder moved here she wasn't
picking things up too quickly (i.e. really, really slowly)
and so I figured that while she may not be the smartest dog
in the world at least she's got a good claim on being the
nicest. But I dunno - something finally clicked on after
about two years, and she's turning out to be trainable *and*
she's figuring out some pretty complicated stuff on her own.
This new thing of Khan's could be the first little spurt of
water from opened floodgates.

Hey, who're you calling a dimwit?

He is indeed a bear of very little brain. And still the bestest dog EVAH!

Only 6? That's fast!!! It took Chile about 14. She didn't
figure it out until a couple of years ago. Used to be that Oppie
would see her standing outside the patio door and start whining
to let us know that she wanted in. It was his job.

She doesn't exactly bark. Now most of her non-warning noises are
either "pips" or "squeaks" - so of course her new nickname is...

Princess Pipsqueak.
