Default Rat poison was in the dog and cat food recalled!

FOX News Channel just reported that it's RAT POISON that was found in
all those cans of dog and cat food - not aflatoxin, etc.

Not many other details are available yet.

But if this is true, it would imply that someone actually *intended*
to do harm (or worse) to pets. And tt wasn't just a horrible accident.

So be careful out there.

Maybe it's wasn't intentional.

Not neccessarily. There are several possible scenarios that are collosally
stupid, but unintentional. For example, farmers in China could have used
rat poison in the fields, or it could have been used in the storage
locations prior to shipping.

Whatever happened, I hope the facts come to light very soon so people can
relax again about what they are feeding their pets.

The schnauzer list has a link to an ABC News story

It's not legal to use in the US but it apparently came in from China.

The good news is that vets now know better how to treat it.

The U.S. is the world's largest producer and exporter of wheat, and
Canada isn't far behind.

I can't wait to hear the reason behind Menu Foods needing to export
wheat from China, of all places.

It wasn't but a few years ago that China was an importer of wheat.

Hmmmm.

If you want to know what Republicans really think about free
and unencumbered markets, have a good look at their
agricultural and trade policies. In pretty short order it
becomes clear that they're less interested in free trade as
a policy than they are in mad profiteering by their
supporters. Agricultural markets are probably the most
distorted. However, the US is not alone in this - the
insanity is pretty much global.

You bet.

Which is why nothing changes (or was any different) when Democrats are
(were) in power.

I have the same question. Since when do we need to import wheat? I
thought we even export it or supply other countries with it?
My other question is that my understanding is that the poison product
was prepared by Menu Foods. Does that mean ALL of those companies buy
from Menu Foods and slap their label on it? If so that really angers
me. Would someone please enlighten me on that matter?
It is hard to believe that all of the various companies involved in
the recall just happened to buy poison wheat from China.
