Our president, Ms. Jan Applewhite, Washington Humane Society, has been named
Humanitarian of the Year by the Humane Society of Louisiana for her 20-year
work in animal rescue.

All rescued dogs must be fostered, which greatly limits our capacity - we
turn down requests to help 5-10 dogs per week. With no area-wide shelter,
many unwanted pets are dumped in the country of our largely-rural parish
(county); by the time we find them (*if* we find them), they are starving,
sick and needy. If you can help us build a shelter or pay vet bills, please
