Default Recall - lab test show melamine in unrecalled food

The best advice is to still stay away from wheat gluten in any pet food.
Three Nutro cat varieties not on recall list found to contain melamine in
private lab test. What this really means is anyone's guess, as no one is
really sure if melamine is actually doing anything (due to lack of studies
in cats/dogs) or a marker of an unknown substance, or if melamine is
everywhere......

Banfield takes it back and doesn't want to extrapolate numbers. AP reports
a different story shortly after Banfield numbers first released:

It sucks that my paranoia has paid off (I discontinued all food and treats
w/wheat gluten, just in case). This is a friggen nightmare.

Thanks for posting this, buglady, as always.

........Amen to that :-( Anyone seen any local news coverage of the REAL
numbers or are they still saying 16 16 16? While I agree you can't truly
extrapolate numbers for all of the US, I would think that the new VIN
numbers would at least get talked about. And I understand why the FDA isn't
quoting any more than they have personally confirmed. As there is no CDC
for animals, there's really no one out there from the fed guv'mint who is
willing to say the dreaded words *suspected cases.*

..........and to check your cupboards and take a couple sets lists of all
recalled food with you in the car to drop off at those places you might not
think of - like gas station marts.
Ugh ugh ugh - out of the way places and people who just had not figured out
the confusing mess of the recall and continued to feed it. Click on Check
