Harriet was so very good with her stuffed fish.

Of course, about ten minutes after I took that picture, his top fin
was ripped to shreds and the living room was covered in white
fluff.

Adieu, Mr. Fishy Fish.

Hi Shelly,
Harriet looks so sad. The dang fish is the one that ought to have
tears in his eyes

That's not sadness, that's pure evil. Her ears were back and she
was growling and making snarly noises in her throat.

By way of an update: Mr. Fishy Fish has been gutted. He is nothing
but an empty pelt, now. A couple of times each day, Harriet picks
him up, shakes him ferociously, and drops him back onto the floor.
Just in case he is actually a zombie fish, I guess she wants to make
sure he's well and truly dead.

We, too, have a new fishy-shaped soft toy. I purchased it with some
skepticism, as no soft toys with squeakers have survived more than about
two minutes at the Zoo since Sam was a pup. Of course, with Sam gone, the
squeaker-destruction imperative has been demoted to a squeaker-destruction
suggestion.

OUR Fishy-Fish is a girl-fish. She must be, she has eggs. (That's the
conceit of this toy -- the squeakers are in individual "eggs" that can be
removed from the toy without de-stuffing the thing.) As I said, I was
skeptical. But MsFish has survived a month without serious damage! Two of
her three squeaker-eggs are no longer viable squeakers, but they're still
eggs. Ranger thinks the eggs are fun to fetch (and they aren't as hard on
the house, or his teeth, as tennis balls). Even Lindy likes to carry
MsFish around. And MsFish came with three "extra" eggs, should the
original batch get lost or destroyed.

I may get the hedgehog next time I'm at the store. Or maybe the chicken.

A similar thing has happened at my house, too. With only one dog,
there is much less toy destruction, period. They used to play tug
with any toy that was big enough for both of them to get their
mouths on. Harriet *will* destroy toys on her own, but it takes her
longer, and she does not seem to be quite as motivated to
killkillkill as she used to be. Part of that may be age, too.
She's very nearly turned into a grown up dog.

What a clever idea!

Speaking of durable toys, Big Bad Cuz is still "con pies"! She
chews on his feets occasionally, but so far, they've stood up to the
abuse very well.

You can't be too careful with those zombies. My daughter and her BC,
Scully have this whole routine.

DD points index finger at Scully and yells "Bang"

Scully drops to the floor and lays there, grinning expectantly and
thumping her tail... She knows this game.

DD "I shot you, so play dead!"

Scully puts her head down but her eyes are still open and she's still
wagging

DD "Uh uh. Deader than that."

Scully rolls onto her back, contorts herself into an "S" shape and
closes her eyes

DD "Now that's one dead dog. But wait... What's this?! OMIGOD!!
ZOMBIE DOG!!!

Scully leaps to her feet, growling ferociously and bouncing around,
looking for something she can grab and shake (woe be unto random socks
left on the floor)

That is a *most* excellent game. Both Scully and DD get full points
for originality and, um, execution.
