Default dogs and rabbits

Today my dog excitedly ran over to give me a present; a tiny baby rabbit she
found.

I know that is what dogs do, and I can't imagine how the rabbit could be
dumb enough to nest in a yard with a dog; but I really don't like it.

Any suggestions for how to prevent it in the future would be appreciated;
though I expect the only solution is smarter rabbits.

The nest was right out in the open; if it was in a wilder place I don't see
how the coyotes or foxes would miss it.
