Sterilitation
If you purchased a purebred dog from a reputable breeder, they can
(and should) serve as an invauable resource for you in this decision and if you signed a contract the spay might be a contractual obligation of purchasing this pet, it might also be forbidden, depending on the breeder and the dog. If she didnt come from a breeder with a contract, perhaps you adopted her as a stray? What ever the circumstances, this is a personal decision. I recommend it, however, as the bitches heat is a nasty time consuming month long bloody ordeal which will attract every male dog from miles and MILES away. This will result in at best, your frustration at keeping her clean, your house clean , keeping her away from any other dogs you may have and keeping unwanted stray males and local loose running dogs away from your bitch during potty times, or keeping unwanted males out of your fenced yard, they will be fighting in your yard over everywhere she has urinated, if you have a fence she will be literally flagging and throwing herself at all of them (they really are not picky) thru the fence. All this chaos might result in an unwanted breeding of mixed heritage, which possible will result in the $100's of dollars extra to properly care for and vet the litter (pups need to have nails clipped weekly, be dewormed every 2 weeks and begin shots by 5 or 6 wks and must recieve the full series of puppy shots, NOT just the first one to be fully protected) , or worst, could result in a potential c- section(could run from a $200 all the way up to $2000, depending on your vet) and possible loss of your family pet, with you still left holding the bill for it all. All of this is avoided by a simple spay procedure done by your vet between the ages of 4 to 6 months. One night in the vet clinic and all the above mentioned horror is avoided. You dont mention what breed she is, if she is purebred, if she is AKC registered, or a mixed breed or any details. If she were an AKC registered Ch bitch which had undergone all neccessary health tests and temperment tests pertainent to her breed, then breeding MIGHT be an option..and still, even then, its a big MIGHT. Feel free to contact me privately if you need more information. Hope this helps, Michelle On May 18, 12:48 pm, danix wrote: Hi everybody - i'd like to ask if (female) sterilisation is "necessary" - i'm glad to receive as many opinions as possible.
