New trick
For the last couple of days I've been working on a new trick with
Scully - "bring me your dish". It started off as "bring me your bowl", but I realized that it was too close to "ball" when I kept pointing to the relevant container and she kept frantically scrambling around the house for more tennis balls to fling at me. We work on it for no more than 5 minutes at a time, two or three times per day, with my daughter giving another short practice after school. Simple stuff, really, especially for a dog who always thinks she's starving. Put the other dogs outside so they don't get in the way. Set the food dish on the floor, tell her bring me your dish", and when she succeeds she gets to eat a couple of kibbles of dry dog food out the dish. Lather, rinse, repeat. So last night I'm sitting in living room reading and Scully goes to the back door and yips to go out. To make sure I got the point she ran over, put her paws on my lap and stared anxiously at the door. By this time Zane and Cooper are also waiting at the door. They scramble to be the first out the door, usually getting jammed in the too-narrow opening because I can't slide the door back fast enough. Scully generally hangs back and follows after the idiots have cleared the deck. This time, though she just stood there. "Wanna go out?" She backed up a couple of steps and just stood there. Apparently she'd changed her mind. So I go back to the couch and back to my book. WHANG! Oh, sh*t... Right on the bony part of the shin. Scully had decided it was time to practice so she put the boys outside, retrieved her dish from the counter and threw it at me. Of course I obliged her. I have to wonder who is training who. |

@newsfe06.lga: I have to wonder who is training who. I don't think you need to wonder about that! What a great story, and what a clever girl! I'm sorry about your shin, though. -- Catherine & Zoe the cockerchow & Queenie the black gold retriever & Max the pomeranian & Rosalie the calico cat |
