I guess this really belongs in .breeds, but since the discussion is here, any guesses? His DNA was sent off last week, so it will be a few until we have the results! -- Janet Boss www.bestfriendsdogobedience.com |

DNA for Murphy
I am way behind the times as usual. I had no idea until the Meredith
Viera thread that they did DNA testing on dogs. Does anyone have any idea as to the cost of such a thing? I am sure my 4 mixes could blow out their lab. Be Free.....Judy |

Thanks Diddy,
I have already changed my mind. When you posted they wanted a pic that kinda blew their credibility. Also, No Rhodesians on the list. Someday I will get pics of my young dogs, post them and you all can tell me what you think they are. That sounds about as solid as the DNA testing. Be Free.....Judy |

wildhack whittled the following words: On 2007-05-26 18:40:50 -0400, diddy said: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=0zfqZYdutMI When I see that video, Tuck seems so big, but when I met him, he seemed much smaller than I thought. How tall is he now? People think of Elkhounds as BIG dogs. In fact, they are a medium sized breed. When you saw Tuck, he was at the top of the standard as tall as they are supposed to get. He's remained there. He was, and still is in the scrawny gawky tweeny age. Last month, I took him to a show where he took a point. The specials dog commented on him, and told me to put weight on him. I had Tuck incorrectly entered in open dogs (mature) instead of 12-18 months. As we discussed, Tuck actually weighed MORE than the specials dog (Tuck just has less hair.) Tuck has more bone, and he's more physically fit. The other dog, with much more hair, all foofed up, looked MUCH larger than Tuck. I'm not too worried about entering or showing Tuck right now. Tuck still has some maturing to do, and he will. He shouldn't get any taller, but he's got filling out to do. I would rather he develop slowly than pack on the pounds just to take points. The elkhound is very short bodied/cobby dog. You can have a 21 inch dog of standard length and they can look HUUUGE. Their erect head set, instead of more horizontal, as well as the tail curled up over their backs instead of trailing out behind, also shortens up their overall impression. Tuck has stood by many a dog of the same height, and they strung out at least half again as long. A good elkhound stands in a square box, not a rectangle. |
