Luna's owners love Pan. She really, really likes them both even though she
is generally fairly reserved around people who are not in her inner circle,
offering kisses to Luna's female owner (normally reserved for me), and
playing with her male owner the way she does with Rajesh and I (she's
substantially more comfortable around women than men).

They have a toy that Pan adores. It's red, looks like it's made from the
same stuff Kongs are made of (only not as thick), sort of in the shape of a
football, and when squeaked, sounds like someone's strangling a cat.
Yesterday, we were playing with it when Pan hurt her foot chasing the toy,
and that put an end to the game. Since it was time for us to leave anyway,
Luna's mom picked up the toy, only to have Pan follow her around like Mary's
little lamb, so we decided to try a little experiment. Instead of putting
the ball away, Luna's mom carried the toy in her hand, and the whole way up
to the parking lot, Pan walked right next to her, total attention on the
toy. I opened the car door, and Khan hopped in, but Pan was still standing
by Luna's car, staring at the ball. At this point, Luna's mom tossed the
ball into the back of her car.

Any guesses as to what happened next?

How did Luna feel about Pan jumping into her car? Did Luna's humans drive
Pan home? Is Pan still in the car?

Luna wasn't in their car yet. If we're at the dog park, Luna is always
hopeful that she can come home with us, so she was sitting next to my car
and waiting for her owners to get careless and drop the leash so she can
jump in. I am still not sure why she does that. My suspicion is that the
abundance of wildlife in the yard is hugely entertaining, and she much
prefers the *real* dogs we have here to Spike (Min Pin) or Kitty (hopefully,
self explanatory), although Pan can be such a bitch towards her.

Cheater! I can't tell you that.

Pan gave up and came to you.

Not quite.

She jumped into the car after the toy, picked it up, and stood there for a
couple of seconds, squeaking it and making sure it's the same toy, I
suppose. Then, she jumped out, ran over to my car, hopped in, squeezed the
toy in Khan's ears, dropped it and turned to me with a big smile on her
face. It was quite clear that she was very pleased with herself.

Unfortunately for her, I am a big meanie and returned the toy to its
rightful owners. If you had heard the thing, you'd understand why I don't
want it around the house. I have a sneaky suspicion that someone is going
to get that toy for Christmas; it's the equivalent of giving a drum set to
someone else's kid.

.... which made me picture placing the toy in Khan's ear where it
wouldn't fit and squeezing it to make it smaller so it would stay. Like
they say about never putting anything smaller than your elbow in your
ear ...
