Default NDWA Calls For UK Compulsory Dog Insurance

In a draft report, scathing of existing UK breed specific dangerous
dogs legislation and equally scathing of those organisations that
contributed to it, the National Dog Wardens Association NDWA has
called for the compulsory insurance of all dogs in the country.

That's a different approach. I wonder what kinds of coverage for
liability and medical costs would be involved, what premiums
would cost, what punishments would be in place for people who
failed to purchase a policy, how it would be enforced. It sounds
like it's modeled on mandatory automobile insurance - also
difficult to enforce (in some states an estimated 25% of drivers
are not insured).

In the US some insurance companies refuse to write homeowner's
insurance policies for people who have specific breeds of dogs,
or they charge higher premiums for some breeds, or they refuse to
renew policies if some breeds have been acquired. This varies
between companies, states, and probably locations.
