12 Year Old Dog Very Sick
Our Yellow Lab for the last three weeks has not been able to keep much
of its food down. Vomited ver ybad yello bile and mostly undigested food outdoors and also on our carpet - tough to clean. Been to the vet three weeks ago and last week. Gave us some medication. Said it might be tumor outside of digestive tract causing blockage or might be infection. Can't feel any blockage in lower area. Says tests at this stage are more for diagnostic purposes. Ultrasounds can be performed but surgery is a big "if" for a dog this old depending on what shows up on the ultrasound. Also suggested Pedialyte. Cut down to small meals throughout the day and seemed like it was going to do well. Then suddenly a big vomit today a few hours after its small morning meal. The dog seems to not be in pain but does seem weak and I'm not surrpised since it has not had much nutirion over the last three weeks. You know this dog is very very sick when it will not even drink its favorite drink 1% lowfat milk. At odds with the scene. My wife has MS and it does present a risk if the dog is vomiting every few days should it spread some germs or attract some. It can't even get much of its food through its system. It's crappiles could not compete with a small poodle and althogh not liquidy just seem too soft and undigested to tell me it is being absorbed well. He wants to eat but his body is telling him it wants no part of it afterwards. Despite being sick as hell this dog is very upbeat and I think that even if it were dieing it could still walk around the house presenting us with a picture of being happy to be there - "It's only a flesh wound folks". Sometimes he is like a 12 year old puppy. How long can a dog stay sick? Orion |
