As the Americans began to arrive and build the base, Sir Bruce
Greatbatch, the governor of the Seychelles, who had been put in charge
of the "sanitizing", ordered all the pet dogs on Diego Garcia to be
killed. Almost 1,000 pets were rounded up and gassed, using the
exhaust fumes from American military vehicles. "They put the dogs in a
furnace where the people worked," says Lizette Tallatte, now in her
60s," ... and when their dogs were taken away in front of them, our
children screamed and cried."

The "good old" USA, can't even stop killing dogs on home turf--goes
and kills hundreds of dogs in Diego Garcia.

Whatever it takes.

Take a stand, coward.
"Whatever it takes," is a cop-out.
You speak with a forked tongue.

"Take a stand"? "Coward"? LOL

From time to time, I'll look up to see someone watching me, as I work
with a terrified dog. They want to see if I get bit! About once every
four years, I do sustain a nip. I don't feel courageous, or lucky: I
feel humble. That is the stand I take.

Almost everyday, I'm down on my knees, working with dogs that are too
ugly, filthy or too terrified to be touched by most shelter visitors. I
remove their ticks. I remove their messed up coats, which often resemble
a shell of dirt and dead hair, entwined with burs and briars. I scissor
out the feces matted in their tails and back ends, and I bathe them. I'm
a shelter volunteer, and that is the stand I take.

Incidentally, in addition to compassion and a bit of skill, it takes
some courage to do those things to a scarred dog one has just met.
Fortunately, dogs are usually quick to realize I'm trying to help them.

It tickles me that you have the guts [and ignorance] label me "coward"
online. Maybe we'll meet face to face some day; and we'll see how gutsy
you are then. :-)

All the other accounts I've read say it was the British governor of the
Seychelles that engineered killing the dogs, and British subjects that
carried it out, not the US.

We wanted the island empty. It was the Brits who moved out the people and
killed their dogs.

But you wouldn't let a little thing like truth stand in the way of your
hatred of America, would you?

You obviously did not watch the video.
http://www.informationclearinghouse.info/video1027.htm

All this began to end when an*** American rear-admiral*** stepped
ashore in 1961 and Diego Garcia was marked as the site of what is
today ***one of the biggest American bases in the world.**** There are
now more than 2,000 troops, anchorage for 30 warships, a nuclear dump,
a satellite spy station, shopping malls, bars and a golf course.
**"Camp Justice" the Americans call it."***

But you wouldn't let a little thing like truth stand in the way of your
hatred of America, would you?

Your "facts," are off, see above.
I do not hate America.
I would love to see America live up to the noble principles it was
founded on.

Nope, I'm on dialup for a while, and I'm not watching the video.

It was the British who leased it to us, and by all the accounts I've read,
the British that killed the dogs. The fault is British colonialism - not
the US. The island is a British colony.

Yes.
Take a stand.
You posted earlier:

The two statements contradict each other.

It tickles me that you have the guts [and ignorance] label me "coward"
online. Maybe we'll meet face to face some day; and we'll see how gutsy
you are then. :-)

I doubt that it:"tickles" you--that I called you a coward online.
More like--put you in defense mode, as seen by the rest of your post.
I did not say it to demonize you. I said it to point out the
contradiction in your words.

That is too bad.
The video clearly shows the dogs were murdered by Americans.

the British that killed the dogs. The fault is British colonialism - not
