In the Vietnam War, 281 dogs were officially listed as killed in action. Almost all of the remaining thousands were euthanized after they had completed their service. When U.S. troops pulled out of Vietnam, the dogs were left behind along with surplus equipment. Military records show that of the more than 4,000 dogs who served in Vietnam, only 281 were brought home. The rest were euthanized. So the story of the Vietnam war dogs became one more secret never talked about by many Vietnam veterans. After the Vietnam War, not one surviving War Dog hero was 'officially discharged' and sent home to the family that they once knew, or released to the handler they loved and protected. Why? Because the U.S. military had classified all War Dogs (4,000) as expendable military equipment for the duration of the war. Many of the War Dogs served more than one handler over the course of their brief lives. Roughly 280 War Dogs got out of Vietnam alive (via the quarantine program) and reassigned to other U.S. military installations in different parts of the world. Despite their handlers pleading requests to ship them home, the rest of the almost four thousand surviving canine heroes were euthanized by the U.S. military in their haste to withdraw from that country. |

Such a dog lover already! :-/ plonk Any one who posts:"plonk," is grandstanding. Most people who do not like posters and kill-file them, do so without posting about it. Melinda Shore - Software longa, hardware brevis - Prouder than ever to be a member of the reality-based community What: "reality-based community," would that be? The one that mocks euthanizing four thousand dogs, who had saved the lives of their handlers and others? Who were loyal, did their duty asked of them--and then euthanized-- that: "reality-based community"? Unreal! |

Melinda Shore, approves. She said: "Buh-bye!!!!" ________________________ Whatever it takes. No. "Whatever it takes," is a cop out. There is no way it was justifiable, moral, ethical, humane, or "cost effective," to euthanize the four thousand dogs, after the Vietnam war was over. You just contradicted yourself. From the above: "I doubt that even one person here approves of the disgusting, shameful and painful way those dogs were mistreated at the war's end." ____________ Take a stand, coward. You speak with a forked tongue. |

Beg all you like, most people who do not like posters and kill-file them, do so without posting about it. Since you're obviously not here to discuss dog behavior, Everything that has to do with dogs, has to do with dog behavior. The use of dogs in the military, is a dog behavior issue. plonk! Yah, sure, I bet you look to see if there is a response to your: "I beg to differ." Same with Malinda Shore, I bet she also will look for a response to her post of "Buh-bye!!!!" (sadistic comment, about the killing of four thousand war dogs; who were loyal and courageous) plonk ! Lynne |
