Public Service Through Mug Shots
http://www.nytimes.com/2007/08/13/bu...jyb6iVXlYg1Kpw
http://tinyurl.com/2zb6u3 Animal Care & Control of New York City, a nonprofit organization that runs the city’s animal shelter system, is counting on mug shots to increase support. The organization recently introduced a new public service advertising campaign that features stunning, mug-shot-like, black and white photographs of six different cats and dogs, all shelter pets that have been rescued and need a home. Each animal wears a sign around its neck that lists its “crime”; these range from “owner missing” and “owner died,” to “landlord objected” and “victim of divorce.” Stark copy says “sheltered animals didn’t do anything. Most are victims of circumstance, not abuse. If these animals are guilty of anything, it’s wanting a place to call home. Please help us help them.” This unusual concept was created by an agency that is not normally associated with public service advertising, for animal care groups or any other organization: The campaign is by Unit 7, a unit of Omnicom whose specialty is relationship marketing, for pharmaceutical and other companies. The Animal Care program is the agency’s first public service advertising campaign. Unit 7 and Animal Care joined up through the recommendation of a volunteer for the latter who also freelances for the former, officials said. [more] |
