skin allergy or maybe not
My dog has skin alleriges, we tend to keep them under control by keeping his
hair cut and denadryl, with frequent brushing. He has been to his vet recently and she said his alleriges are high this year for unknown reasons. I've noticed he is scratching more than usual and have made an appointment for him for this coming week. Today while I was playing with him I noticed he has several spots of fur that appear to be covered in pus. When I lifted the fur it revealed a 2 cm or so (depending on the area) bald spot that had a pus crust around their edge. It doesn't seem painful to him when I cleaned it. they're not pink in colour or anything, the same colour as his skin and could easily go unnoticed. I'm having trouble describing it other than to say its bald, round and some have scabbed over, particularly the ones in his underarm area. Its odd that he has one or two on his back. And a large one behind his ear. Has anyone seen this before or can give me some help in identifying the problem so I can read a little more about it before going to the vet. I've ruled out fleas, he was recently tested for mites and came back negative. Thanks Trish |

I had a ringworm puppy who had the same problems, the spots weren't really discolored, but would get scaly(sp) & crusty. My Min. Dachshund has some kind of skin problem this year. She gets these circles all over, the skin turns scaly, hair falls out, and she looks almost polka-dotted. Within a week her skin & coat regrow. Two weeks later it starts all over again. My vet can't pinpoint the exact nature of the problem so its currently being labeled as dermatitis. Anyway, she doesn't get these spots in her armpits and they are extremely itchy to her. -- Tara |
