Dog grooming herself?
Hi all:
My girlfriend's dog (a cute Cavalier King Charles Spaniel) has a habit of grooming herself like a cat does. After, for example, she eats, she will lick her paws and rub them over her face, repeating several times. I've never seen this behavior in a dog and we were just curious about it. Is that normal for this breed of dog. She's adopted and we are wondering if maybe she was raised in a household having cats and learned that behavior from them. Thanks in advance for any response. |

Is that normal for this breed of dog. Balim, our Englilsh Cocker Spaniel, does this--though she's not very adept at it. It's usually a signal to me that she needs grooming. They have been a variety of mixes. I've got an 8 yr old Pomeranian named Buddy. The first time I observed him licking the inside of a front paw and then rubbing his face with it, I thought he was having some type of weird seizure, since he kept repeating the exact same motions. When I figured out what he was really doing, I had a good laugh on myself. |

If your dog has no dew claws the behavior suggests that it needs to have its head brushed. Cj |
