Hey, Terri

Not sure where this is relative to you, but this sort of thing is always fun for the grandbunnies, not to mention the adults: http://www.freewebs.com/soldiermountainquest/ -- Melinda Shore - Software longa, hardware brevis - Prouder than ever to be a member of the reality-based community |

A lot of these races also have "Kid and Mutt" races, too, which basically consists of shoving a helmet on a kid, sticking them on the back of a sled and telling them to hold on tight, and having the sled be pulled for ~100 meters by one dog. The people who organize dogsled races recognize that the future lies in getting children hooked on expen$$$ive, dangerous activities at a very young age. -- Melinda Shore - Software longa, hardware brevis - Prouder than ever to be a member of the reality-based community |

Terri wrote: Heck it can't be any more dangerous or expensive than 4-wheeling! More expensive than 4-wheeling, different set of dangers. When I was up in Fairbanks I met some kids who were running the Junior Iditarod and similar junior races, and they're pretty awesome. They'd have to be, to be out on their own in -30F temperatures for several hundred miles, running and caring for 10 dogs. But survival is taught in the Alaska public schools, and a bunch of those kids come from mushing families and/or live in the bush. But still - wow. Impressive kids. -- Melinda Shore - Software longa, hardware brevis - Prouder than ever to be a member of the reality-based community |
