Default Vick's dogs

I heard on the news tonight that the dogs belonging to Vick will be going to
a sanctuary to learn how to play with toys and become socialized, etc. It
was also mentioned that Vicks donated 1 million dollars to the care of the
dogs for the rest of their lives.
I had not heard that before, but it made me feel relieved to hear of the
happy outcome of the dogs.
I think it was 22 months in jail that he received for his sentence, which he
started serving in November.

I believe it was court ordered. I'll be curious of the dogs really make
the cut after some period of time.

Maybe. Are they really suitable for placement? Are they really
suitable to live out their lives at BestFriends Animal Sanctuary?

23. Wish it could be longer. Only hope is that he never gets to make
money off his football career in any way, shape or form.

I wonder if CM decided to take them on?

I don't know who Vick is but it sounds a sad story.

I realize that you're in the UK, but if you're at all interested in
dogs, you must have been living in a cave.

Michael Vick WAS a big time NFL player and dog fighter as it turns out.

i hate to say it, but i'm really uncomfortable with the idea of
sanctuary placement for these dogs. apparently this makes me no longer a

friend of the breed, but whatever.

I am really surprised to read your comment above, especially, from one whom
I thought loved Pit Bulls. How could a happy ending for so many dogs make
you so angry that now you have even turned against the entire breed? Would
you rather they all be put down? Isn't saving the life of any dog a good
thing? Don't you think these dogs should at least get a second chance at a
better life from the one they had before? Your statement is totally
mindboggling to me.

She DOES.. She loves them so passionately that she feels the entire
decision is NOT in some of those dog's best interests.

How could a happy ending for so many dogs make
you so angry that now you have even turned against the entire breed?

Uh.. that's NOT what she said. Nor what happened. The fact she disagrees
might be perceived as an enemy of pitbulls, but in fact, from a realistic
perspective, elegy's approach loves those dogs more than the legal decision
makers.

Would
you rather they all be put down?

Duh.. Read for comprehension. She broke it down that she did approve of
some of the outcome, but not all.

Isn't saving the life of any dog a good
thing?

Not necessarily. Sometimes death is a relief. There are things worse than
death.

Don't you think these dogs should at least get a second chance at a
better life from the one they had before? Your statement is totally

She does. Hence, her sentiments about how some people put other things
ahead of the welfare of the dogs.

How could a happy ending for so many dogs make
you so angry that now you have even turned against the entire breed?

There are some things worse than death. Being warehoused is one of them.
I'm not convinced that this is what I'd call a "happy ending", at least for
many, many of those dogs.

Isn't saving the life of any dog a good
thing? Don't you think these dogs should at least get a second chance at

a

While I have no problems with individuals attempting rehabilitation, I am
not certain it should be done by organizations whose time, energy and
resources would be better spent in trying to help out dogs with absolutely
no problems whatsoever, and will likely get put down for the simple reason
that there aren't good homes out there. Giving a second chance? Sure.
Having the dog live out its natural life with fear, anxiety, aggression, and
all that it entails? Not so much.

'Mild to intense threat to stimulus' and 'high arousal towards people' is
code for aggressive. IMO, human aggression in Pitbulls is unacceptable. It
goes very much counter to how these dogs really should be. What is the
point of keeping these animals alive (potentially, no significant contact
with people and no contact with other animals) other than for the sake of
keeping them alive and making a point?
