... [] Off to a good start this year: http://forecast.weather.gov/showsigw...y+Snow+Warning Well, I hope YOU'RE happy. (Is "Bah Humbug" appropriate here?) I'll be thinking of you when I'm out shoveling every hour tomorrow to stay ahead of the snow and keep a cleared area in the yard for the little dogs. And we're actually in a 4-8" estimate area - just north of us it could be a foot. The only good things I've heard about it is that it's during the daylight hours and the winds won't be too bad. And then there's the weekend storm.............. And DH is off, north of Albany, on a hunting trip. His plan is to come back on Sunday but that's not looking like a good choice right now. Oh, and another good thing - we bought a generator a month or so ago and the electrician is coming on Friday to put in the switch. The generator won't give us water in a power outage but it will run the pellet stove, the refrigerator and freezer, the microwave and some lights. That will keep the house from freezing and the food from thawing. I was hoping that if we took this step that it would ensure that we *never* needed it. Judy |

I'll be thinking of you when I'm out shoveling every hour tomorrow to stay ahead of the snow and keep a cleared area in the yard for the little dogs. I went out and got gas for the snowblower and started it up to make sure it runs. Bring it on! And DH is off, north of Albany, on a hunting trip. His plan is to come back on Sunday but that's not looking like a good choice right now. Cool. Does he camp or stay at a camp? The timing for this is actually pretty good, since regular deer season in the southern tier ended last Sunday and there are so few black powder and archery guys (and they tend to be a lot less goofy, anyway) that the woods are safe once again. It must be about 5 years since we had decent snow this early. I remember going out before deer season ended, and Duncan ran with us. Oh, and another good thing - we bought a generator a month or so ago and the electrician is coming on Friday to put in the switch. I think that's a pretty good approach, but I do tend to suspect that it all comes down to Pablo's booties. A friend of mine put in a nice, big generator but when the power went out last winter the thing failed to start. I can't figure out which was causal. -- Melinda Shore - Software longa, hardware brevis - Prouder than ever to be a member of the reality-based community |

Does he camp or stay at a camp? This trip he is actually staying at a friend's house. The last two trips, he was W-A-Y back in the mountains around Caroga Lake. They pack a tent and woodstove and all their gear in ahead of time - it takes them about 90 minutes to hike in with only a backpack for a weekend. That's what he really loves. Never sees another hunter for days. This trip is more about friendship than *real* hunting. One good thing about this trip is that he does have phone contact. The friend's phone if necessary but his cell phone also works there - sort of. Apparently that area has some kind of hinky contract with Verizon because he can call out with no problems but no one can call in. I can leave voice mail but his phone won't register it until he gets out of the area. With all the parental problems, it's getting harder for us to stay out of touch for very long. Oh, and another good thing - we bought a generator a month or so ago I think that's a pretty good approach, but I do tend to suspect that it all comes down to Pablo's booties. A friend of mine put in a nice, big generator but when the power went out last winter the thing failed to start. I can't figure out which was causal. Okay, now you are NOT helping. I know when we first brought it home that it started. But I don't think anyone has checked it since. We did check our gas supply. Maybe when the electrician is here on Friday I should have him check out the whole system - *with* the generator running! OB Dogs - I really wish I had gotten time to hike the dogs today while the sun was out. I got hung up in Endicott and didn't get back as early in the day as I had hoped. Unlike your dogs, mine will not appreciate the snow on the ground at all. Maybe after it packs down a little. Judy |

(They've been down in Orlando with their mom, visitng their older sister who just had a baby girl the tuesday after Thanksgiving...) and since we'd had some, we'd gone out and bought them new sleds and snow gear.. and then it all melted the day before they got up... quite depressing... *sigh* We did finally get a bit of snow again here in the Anchorage/Palmer area earlier this week... not much, but it's much better then the nothing we had last week... quite hoping for more soon.. (ok, true, i don'thave to be out on the roads much, so my opinion and desire for snow may not be entirely shared by those who do... heh.. i really only have to be out and on the roads for any amount of time about once a week when i have to go to my chiropractic appointment.. and probablly don't have too many of those left.. before insurance decides i'm "cured") Davina |

It is comind down heavy in Ma.......it must be nice where you are. _____________________ Pfoley, It has been nice. It has been in 80's/60's, but we just had a front move through, complete with tornadoes, no damage around here, and it is suppose to be in the 30's tonight....Yippee.... I have to drive my dogs up the road to walk them. I know it sounds odd, but it is not just uphill, it is rocky. yerrr bad road. I load up who ever I am taking, turn on the AC, drive past two houses, until I get to asphalt, and then we can walk by the lake. No more AC for the next few days, and I think we will walk a little farther. I have been checking your weather out on the news, and while watching football. Yikes!!!! I used to live in Mi. and they were catching some snow, too!!! Stay warm and dry. Be Free.....Judy |
