I just thought I should add more. The injuries were significant, but
the fault still lies with the owner. The severity of the injury stems
from the strength of the dog, but that strength is not the fault of
the dog. The dog didn't choose to be of a powerful breed of dog, the
owners chose to own a powerful breed. When you own any breed of dog,
it is your responsibility to prevent the dog from being placed in a
situation where it may react poorly. The owners shouldn't have
allowed their child to taunt their dog. Every breed of dog out their
has a set of dogs that will react in the same away under those same
conditions. Now the child will have to go the rest of it's life
disfigured, and the fault does not lie with the dog although the dog
is the one that is paying for their mistake.

One of my daughters was bitten by a friends dog. She was already old enough
to drive, because she had driven to the friends house herself. All she did
was open her car door, didn't even see the dog come running out of the
garage. As soon as she opened her car door, the dog bit her in the knee
area. Mostly on the side and back of her knee. It was a really nasty
looking bite. Her leg was all swollen, turned dark blue, and she has a scar
from the bite. The dog you ask? A cocker spaniel. Not a pit bull, not a
rottweiler, no, a cocker spaniel. And my daughter did nothing to provoke
the bite other than stick her foot out of the car in the process of exiting
her vehicle. I wonder how that fits into *Greens* 'theory of life'.

If the bite was that bad from a cocker, imagine the magnitude magnified had
they chosen to irresponsibly keep a pitbull!

Thank god they only chose to irresponsibly keep a cocker.

Except the bite would still happen even if pit bulls were banned
because BSL does nothing about irresponsible owners. If you take care
of the irresponsible owner problem, then there won't be a problem with
the breed. Bad bites happen from most every breed out there, and I'm
opposed to unjustly targeting one group to fix a part of the
problem(dog bites) that only exists because of the root
problem(irresponsible owners). Target the group that is the root
problem and you will have much better success in eliminating dog bites
and attacks.

A dog can't escape a child like that? Dogs are fast and strong. It should
have just run off and hid under a bed or something. I got the feeling that
the pitbull didn't give much thought to delivering that bite. I tease my cat
all the time, if she gets irritated, she uses her claws to let me know she's
had enough. She doesn't deliver a mutilating slash across the face or take
out my eye. It just takes a little prick to make me stop and the cat knows
it. If I tease my dog, he either moves or just takes it for awhile. I don't
think he'd bite my nose off if I poked him a few times.

You folks don't give animals enough credit. Most of them do realize that a
mutilating response is not acceptable. It's just the pit bulls that are in
the news all the time for getting extreme or deadly with no provocation or
just a little provocation.

In the video the mother says that she thought all dogs were the same too and
that the dog was great for eight months and then he did this.

Those of you who think she's a bad owner or mother... do you really think
any mother can watch her kids and dog every second? Be realistic. Even the
most concientious mom can't be there and fast enough to save the daay every
second or an entire childhood. Why would anyone want a pet that is prone to
inflicting severe bites? That's the real question.

Your posts are way too long.

You did say "you get the animal you trained". I've never "trained" any of my
cats. They're all capable of doing pretty nasty damage, but every cat I've
had has always applied the least amount of force to get it's message across.
It just knows that it isn't acceptable to sink it's fangs or claws deep. It
treats me like a bad kitten - gently, but firmly. My cat wouldn't hurt me
unless it felt I was trying to kill it or do serious damage.

Dogs are the same way... except pit bulls. A lot of pit bulls seem to be
suffering from some kind of damage that has removed moderation from it's
personality. They go into a rage and they inflict severe damage or death.
Some criminals with brain damage do the same thing and it's sometimes blamed
on brain injury. Why is it so hard to believe that pit bulls, by being bred
the way they were, suffered some kind of brain damage that affects the way
they deal with situations when doctors have no trouble blaming certain
behavior on brain damage in humans?

Pit Bulls - bred to fight and kill.

It's not the dog's fault. It's not the owners fault. It's the breeder's
fault.

It's only crossposted because I replied to Delusional's post. That's not
