Whatever you decide on, be sure to 'Research' the breed thoroughly to make
absolutely sure there are no characteristics that may not be to your liking.
Read, attend dog shows, visit breeders, etc.

A few suggestions:

American Bulldog
Great Dane
Dogge de Bordeau
Bouvier de Flandres
English Mastiff

The American Bulldog would be the last one you would want around kids.

Not that you deserve a response, judging by all your other very lovely posts
here but I think its important that the OP not take your comment as gospel.
I have never heard of an American Bulldog not being good with kids. I can
give you 5 particular instances where they are doing wonderfully with
children of all ages, from toddlers to pre-teens.

While I have known Rob a fairly long time, and actually appreciate
his, uh, "blunt" style as a refreshing change, and usually agree with
him in various diverse areas, I must heartily disagree with him. My
AB, and most I have known, or heard about, were great with kids. His
experience, of course, might be different.
